When you see lawmakers like Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina tweeting that “it is going to keep snowing until Al Gore cries ‘uncle,’ ” or news that the grandchildren of Senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma are building an igloo next to the Capitol with a big sign that says “Al Gore’s New Home,” you really wonder if we can have a serious discussion about the climate-energy issue anymore.More specifically, you wonder if Republicans can have a serious discussion about any issue, because let's be honest-they are either the stupidest group of people to ever hold legislative office in this country, or they are the most dishonest, unpatriotic, and disgusting bunch of assholes in Congress. And that's saying quite a bit.

Inhofe's Igloo

Perhaps it would be too obvious to point out that ad hominem diatribes do not an argument make... but then, you aren't interested in logic, are you?
ReplyDeleteThis is not an ad hominem attack. This would be an ad hominem attack:
ReplyDelete"Inhofe's contention (that extreme weather phenomenon is proof that climate change is non-existent) is wrong because Inhofe is an asshole."
See?
But this was the argument I actually made:
"Inhofe's belief (that extreme weather phenomenon is proof that climate change is non-existent) shows that he is either dishonest or a moron. Having a substantive discussion with either a moron or someone who is dishonest is pointless. Therefore, we should probably not engage in a debate with him."
Nice try, though.
